This is not a standalone position. Climbing and aerial work are advanced skill sets performed by members of the Production Tree Crew and are compensated at a higher rate only when those skills are used in production.
This specialty requires a minimum of 2 years of verifiable climbing experience in arboriculture (referrals or formal training certifications as outlined). Persons with a fear of heights or that are not prepared to demonstrate ANSI standards in work aloft before working with us need not apply.
Climbing/Aerial Operations and the associated pay are earned through demonstrated competency in ground operations, saw handling, rigging, overall job awareness, and a willingness to work at height. Crew members who are qualified to work aloft are expected to move between ground and aerial responsibilities as job conditions require.
Arborists working aloft, whether climbing or operating a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP), set the pace of the job and carry significant responsibility for safety, efficiency, and execution. This requires strong situational awareness, clear and constant communication with the crew, and a disciplined approach to cutting and rigging.
Work at this level requires a working understanding of hinge mechanics, rope systems, load management, and job progression. Climbers must be capable of selecting and using appropriate equipment, including climbing lines, aerial anchors, redirects, friction devices, and must be able to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining control of the work.
A solid foundation in tree biology, physics as it applies to rigging and movement, and equipment care is expected. Climbers must also demonstrate the physical capacity required for extended periods aloft and will be trained and evaluated in aerial rescue prior to performing production climbing.
Compensation for climbing and aerial work typically ranges from $22–$30+/hr, depending on experience, reliability, and demonstrated ability.
This rate applies FOR THE ENTIRE DAY when performing aerial work for EACH DAY the Crewmember fills the role; standard Production Crewman pay applies when working in ground operations.
Preference is Given to the Following:

Commercial Drivers' License (Class A) or an ability to obtain
ISA or TCIA Certifications (Arborist, Lift Operations or Tree Climber Specialist, Crane Operations Specialist)

Applicants wishing to fill the role of a climber may apply using the Tree Crew Application above and may submit proof of experience in the form of a resume with prior work-experience and/or associated certificates of qualification.
